Why I'm moving from discord...
As an early adopter of Discord, i've seen it's fair share of terrible decisions. But with the recent decision to finalise a partnership with Palantir (persona verification), and to go publically traded, I am now preparing to jump ship over to Stoat. I will not lie down & endanger my community by keeping them on a platform turned hostile!

Discord was an amazing app when I joined it just over 10 years ago, it did everything I wanted out of a chat app, and I've met some of my greatest friends on it. That's why it pains me to have to move away, but for the safety of myself, and the people I care about in a world quickly adopting mass surveillance, I can't just lie down and take it.
I'm leaving
Discord has made many bad decisions over the years, AI generated Chat Summaries (which i'm apparently the only one who remembers it), a destruction of what made it special to slowly shift to a company so blank & devoid of uniqueness that it's barely even the same as it was a decade ago, using AI to guess your age from activity (what does that mean), the locking of good and unique features behind a harsh paywall, it's protection of discords that engaged in incredibly immoral activities such as terrorism or distribution of csam, the ignorance around scams & bots running rampant across the app, it's recent decision to move towards a publically traded company during a market obsessed with shoving AI & tracking into literally everything, and the decision to use persona, a company funded by Palantir (a company complicit in the Gaza Genocide & ICE occupation of the US), to verify your age. All of these decisions culminated in a hard decision to leave the platform over the next few weeks of 2026. I'm doing my best to migrate the communities i'm active in, but obviously 1 person alone can't convince people to do the right thing.
I know i'm just some random silly woman on the internet spewing her opinions out to an uncaring world, but if the world is quickly moving towards mass surveillance to keep us "poors" under check, the least you can do is not lie down a red carpet for them. Neutrality benefits no one, and i'm not going to just sit around and let my community get harmed by corporations who want to increasingly extract us for wealth through data collection. I have a duty to protect my community, however small, from any harm that may befall them, and that protection doesn't go away if the aggressor suddenly includes the very app we all congregate on. I'm asking my own community, and the communities I care about to not sit back and let Palantir suddenly have access to all of your most important data, especially when that data is being used to get people killed in the US & Palestine (and who knows where else Palantir aides in causing mass death).
Moving platforms is hard work, but we did it once before when Twitter was bought out by an egotistical maniac that has connections to Epstein, so I believe we can do it again, only this time make a more active effort to do so. I've chosen Stoat as my go to app because I firmly believe, especially after seeing them manage the sudden influx of 900K people shockingly well, that they have the spirit necessary to become the true alternative to Discord.
My Stoat Server has replaced all of my discord links across many platforms, and if you believe in making the world a better place, take one step now in the right direction so that we may all live to walk together again.
I'm likely not to return to discord in the near future, even with a full policy reversal, as it is largely systemic at this point!
Where to find me!
I'm active on socials, but do not accept dms from those I have never interacted with before!
